Abarenbo Shogun (or "Roughneck Shogun") was a very popular TV series broadcast
on TV Asahi from 1978 through 2003, a total of 26 years! Shogun Tokugawa
Yoshimune traveled around the nation incognito, disguised as a samurai named
Tokuda Shinnosuke. Using this alter-ego, he solved problems and punished
corruption and injustice from his home base in the capital city of Edo. Out of the total of
831 episodes, this is the 500th episode Anniversary Special. Shogun Tokugawa
Yoshimune (Matsudaira Ken), upon learning that a powerful family in the Ryukyu
Islands had allied themselves with the Satsuma Clan in an effort to take over the
nation, sets off to the Ryukyu's to stop this dastardly plot. However, with his identity
exposed, numerous assassins set out to stop him from reaching his destination. Time
after time, Yoshimune is in real danger, and must be saved by former members of his
'Bodyguard' force. This superb episode features well known guest stars from the first
through third series', who join into the thrilliing action scenes. Directed by: ARAI Taishi
